CHI member Dr. David Michaels, Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health, published an op-ed in The Atlantic entitled 'America Is Failing to Protect Workers From Extreme Heat.' This opinion piece discusses how the climate crisis is particularly endangering outdoor workers, and the need for Congress to allow the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to overhaul the agency’s standard-setting process, or at least direct OSHA to fast-track new rules, so that the agency can quickly issue comprehensive national standards requiring protection from extreme heat and wildfire smoke.
